deer on a snowy eve

Deer are feeding on a block of compressed sunflower seeds in the backyard of my friend Jenny Munten. With her trail cams, she also captures bobcats, coyotes, turkeys, raccoons, foxes, rabbits and opossums in our neighborhood abutting on the Sleeping Bear Dunes, Michigan’s National Seashore. – Opossums are most welcome because they are supposed to be savvy at smelling out tick nests to devour the ticks. – Also abundant are ravens, crows and blue jays.

Capering along the Shore

oil on aluminum panel, 48 x 24 in

“My painting ‘Capering along the Shore’ holds several meanings for me. On the surface, it depicts a scene of joy and tranquility at Lake Michigan, capturing the simple pleasures of being in nature.

However, the painting takes on an additional layer of meaning through the context of a woman’s recovery from chemotherapy. The woman’s actions, portrayed as she exercises to regain the use of her hands and feet, symbolize resilience and determination in the face of challenges. It serves as a metaphor for the human spirit’s ability to strive for recovery and renewal, even when confronted with adversity.

Other paintings in my Motion Series are:
