Capering along the Shore

oil on aluminum panel, 48 x 24 in

“My painting ‘Capering along the Shore’ holds several meanings for me. On the surface, it depicts a scene of joy and tranquility at Lake Michigan, capturing the simple pleasures of being in nature.

However, the painting takes on an additional layer of meaning through the context of a woman’s recovery from chemotherapy. The woman’s actions, portrayed as she exercises to regain the use of her hands and feet, symbolize resilience and determination in the face of challenges. It serves as a metaphor for the human spirit’s ability to strive for recovery and renewal, even when confronted with adversity.

Other paintings in my Motion Series are:

Dancing in the sunset
Playing at the Shore
Dancing in the Sky .

  1. With her usual gifted eye for detail of anatomy, scenic color, and fluidity, Birgit has captured my moment of beach dancing that makes my toes feel the sand, once again, Thank you, DEAR FRIEND

  2. It reflects a time of healing, when, after chemo, you regained innervation of your hands and feet. Your hands are so expressive.

  3. Birgit — all three of latest paintings are terrific [well, your earlier paintings are terrific as well!]

  4. Thank you, Susan. I plan to enter it for our exhibition at the Oliver Art Center next spring.
