The Artists’ Roundtable: 35 Years of Sleeping Bear Dunes Art and Community

The Artists’ Roundtable — painters, sculptors, and textile artists — gathered at Friendly’s pub for their weekly Sunday breakfast meeting
Sunday morning breakfast at Friendly’s — the Artists’ Roundtable in lively discussion.

Our group, the Artists’ Roundtable — active for about 35 years — gathers on Sunday mornings for breakfast at a local pub, where we discuss art and a wide range of other topics. Our members include painters, sculptors, and textile artists, each with their own distinct interests.

I joined the group in 2011. In 2016, we collaborated on a book showcasing our collective work: The Artists’ Round Table (Mitchell Graphics, Petoskey, MI, 2016).

From May 17 to June 17, our members — who live in Traverse City, Interlochen, Empire, Glen Arbor, Beulah, and Lake Ann — will be exhibiting their work at the Oliver Art Center in Frankfort. I am not yet ready to let go of my own pieces, but others will offer most of their work for sale.

  1. The reception is on Friday from 5 – 7 pm at the Oliver Art Center. I am looking forward seeing you there.

  2. I missed our opening reception because I had to take my golden doodle to the veterinarian.
